A fragment from footage capturing the demolition of the interior of Carliol House, Newcastle City Centre, 2023. Hundreds of artists and community group members were evicted from the building to make way for its redevelopment into regional HMRC offices. The exterior of the former arts space is listed, meaning developers embarked on a long and technical process of extracting the original facade, whilst gutting its interiority.
The video was developed through a physical process of filming, separating, printing, scanning and re sequencing.
Digital footage was separated into individual frames, which were then compressed and physically printed using an inkjet office printer to create contact sheets of images. These images were then individually scanned and each frame animated back into a video sequence.
